Winding Down

The school year is almost complete!

I would love to hear from you to learn about how this school year experience was for your child.  If you would like, you may send in a letter or short note to let me know how you felt the learning lab benefited your child this year.  Also, if you would like any support, resources, or tools for over the summer to continue to help your child please let me know.

Have a wonderful summer!
Keep reading, learning, and exploring!

Answering Questions

Answering Questions
It is important when we speak, read, and write that we provide evidence to explain our thinking.  Often teachers ask students "Tell me more... What makes you say that..."  It is important to ask questions and for students to be able to provide examples to support their thinking.  Often times it may be assumed that students are not providing the "correct" answers, when in fact they have examples.  In other instances, students are giving answers or remarks they think is correct but have no information to back up their ideas.  This week in reading and writing we will be discussing how to answer questions with evidence, referring explicitly to the text.

Check out this thinking mat to help us organize our sticky notes.

Do You Know These Letter Sounds?

Have you seen puppets being sent home?

Continue to use these characters to help your child identify letters and sounds in the alphabet.

Be sure to:
  • discuss capital and lowercase letters
  • point to the words
  • retell the poem using the puppet
  • identify the sound that the puppet, and repetitive words make

Our favorite song that is incorporated with movement is Alphardy by Dr. Jean
