Scholastic Books

Ordering Scholastic books?  They are always due 2 weeks from the date they are sent out, on the Friday.

What can I do with a Scholastic order form, even if I'm not planning on buying any books?  Why does the teacher keep sending them out all the time?
Browsing through a Scholastic book order is like browsing through a catalog for a young child.  Books are exciting!  Even if you do not plan to order books, there are lots of activities that can be done to promote literacy.

Some examples include:
1. Finding books you would want to read
2. Finding non-fiction books, vs. fiction books
3. Write down the titles of the books
4. Find books with a girl as the main character

We strongly suggest that you do these activities at home with your child.

New Addition to 1-103!

We wish Ms. Freehill all the best on her new adventures teaching as she bids farewell to PS 89...

We are so excited to meet her, and know that we are going to have so much fun together!  We can't wait!

Ms. Platt and Ms. Garcia will remain in the classroom, and we will welcome Ms. Murphy on Monday!

Persuasive Writing Unit

Sometimes there are things we just have to have.  It may be books, clothes, jewelry, toys, food, candy, and the list goes on...  We've all been guilty of this!  We might beg, we might cry, we might pout.

In writer's workshop we are busy looking at collections.  Thank you to everyone that brought theirs in!  We are using our senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, (except for tasting!) and collecting lots of facts.  We are also comparing items inside of collections.  We can't wait to review our collections and explain reasons why we like something over another.  Just like the girl in Earrings!  we are trying to be very convincing!
